Honey Island Swamp

Mon, March 10

Today was a shorter day, driving-wise. We left Montgomery and arrived in Slidell, LA at around 1:30. We went on a swamp tour, which was a lot of fun and very educational. Our tour guide had lots of great stories to tell--we learned all about the nutria problem in LA (very interesting--look it up!) among other things. Hopefully Emily will get some swamp pictures up soon!

Every Day is an Organizational Challenge

Sun, March 9

For those of you who know me, this is not necessarily a bad thing! But we are so packed in here that every time we stop somewhere we have to think through what we need to get out, what we need to put away and what the best way to do it is. Tonight was our first night in the camper and it was great! Everyone got a good night's sleep and we successfully set up in the evening and packed up in the morning. It should only get easier from here!

We're Late! All the Time!!

Sat, March 8

We found out today that it is going to take us longer to get places than we had planned. We can't go 70 mph pulling our camper, so we have to add time to all of our projected arrivals. We got to Charlotte at 8:00 for dinner tonight. But once we finally got there we had a great time hanging out with family and eating some delicious NC BBQ!

5 days through, 17 to go!

Hey everyone! This is Emily, the photographer of the group ;) We've been having a great trip so far! We've been through MD, VA, NC, SC, GA, AL, LA, and we are now in Texas, staying at the Yohe's house in Houston. Well, I better stop writing and post some pictures... I'll leave writing about everything to mom =)

This is what our scenery was all through VA, NC, SC, GA.... we kept thinking we saw green trees, but then we'd realize they were only more pine trees =(

Our first stop... Uncle Bob & Aunt B's in NC.

The big trees weren't green yet, but we did see green grass for the first time!

Our first camping night in AL.

I have a lot more pictures I'd like to post, so I'll try to get on later. But for now, goodbye, and be sure to think of us in the 70-80 degree weather when you step outside!!

On our way...NOT!!!

Well, it is 8:40 on the night before we leave for the big cross-country trip, and our camper and van have been stuck in the mud for 2 hours. John & Dwayne tried in vain to pull it out with our little truck...finally called the neighbor up the street with the big truck and he was successful. What a way to start a journey--I guess we can only hope that it gets better from here. Well, we can't help but see this as a reminder that we are not in control of our plans, but we can be sure that God's plan is better than ours--even when it involves standing out in the rain all evening. And a reminder that we need God for every aspect of this trip! Couldn't do it without him...that's for sure!!
